On the inside versus on the outside On the outside: "Ma'am, if the computer is telling you that you cannot access the information using your current passocde, you must choose a new one, and I am telling you that you cannot access the information using your current passcode, you must choose a new one, then indeed, you cannot access the information, you must choose a new passcode..."
On the inside: "I swear by Thor's teat if you do not shut the fuck up about having to pick a new passcode I will reach through this phone, fist your vagina, pull out your ueterus, and tie it in a knot, thereby ensuring that your potential offspring never have a chance to call my potential offspring for a non-issue as non-issuey as this."

For those of you who heard about the 'fresher hut sleep over' and thought 'that would have been fun' now is your chance to get in on it.
After the dinner party for our birthday, who ever wishes to, can come back to mine for an old school sleep over. I have a large room for your bodies. Sadly I have no mattresses... I'll have a tv for dvds and what not.
byo- sleeping gear DVD's toothbrush Stupid pjs, the most ridiculous you own (must be warm) I may also have a yummy breakfast the next day, I'm yet to decide. I also think that 50 of us showing up in our pjs to the local HJ's would be hilarious.
Please e-mail me for more details iam_jane@iinet.net.au

OMFG OH GOD SOMEONE IS TURNING MY COMPUTER INTO A MAC Its being animated at me goddamnit. Fuck that shit. NOTE: Apparently I'm being silly it is not actually morphing into a mac, its just got a few features that vaguely resemble a mac, and happen to be the fucking retarded ones. Also I am an idiot. I'm accidentally installing WoW trial. Err... I here there are servers people hang out on. Which ones? Oh and whose known me for at least a year and has a current Australian passport and is in Perth. birthday presents - yay for music I just bought myself some birthday presents. I am now booked in to see Pivot at The Bakery on Saturday 9 August, a whole bunch of acts at Parklife on 29 August September, and Ladytron at The Bakery on 5 October. I'm also planning on attending RTR's Radiothon opening and closing parties on 30 August and 6 October respectively, but haven't bought tickets yet. I haven't seen much local live music lately. I really should make an effort for some random nights at The Hydey and Amps. That said, I should be going to the Next Big Thing finals at the Rosemount this Friday Saturday (edit: perhaps not!) (go Boys!), and Snowman's last ever (probably) gig in Perth at Capitol on Saturday. I've also got a gift voucher for JB Hifi that I'm planning on spending on IDM, and any cute specials they have. Just have to drag myself into the city during shopping hours. Current Mood: guiltyCurrent Music: Hot Chip - Shake a fist |

Sick and DVD I am sick. I have had the flu for nearly two weeks, and according to the doctor, I also have bronchitis.
However my copy of Archer's Goon on DVD arrived today. I have wanted to watch this since a tragic VCR programming mishap in the 90s, but I was very slow about ordering the DVD and it took me a while to find a place that still stocked it. DWJ fans will understand my joy :) |

* ucc_status: uccmail is down, therefore I have no livejournal comments. Forgive late replies, etc. *SHAAAAAAAPED. Luckily, our month ticks over at midnight. BUT STILL. *oh my god I really want to watch TDK, but no dice until Veterans is done. *Speaking of Veterans, about halfway through edits/rewrites to the final quarter of the story, and should be able to clear through most the rest tonight, cross fingers. Sami has finished her editing and is compiling photos to make a cast list. *Still haven't heard from our artist. Should I worry yet? Maybe I should try commenting on her LJ as well as waiting for a reply email...? * rallamajoop, looks like we might need to take you up on that offer. As soon as I'm done, I'll edit in all the notes Sami's made and fire off the googledocs your way. Either tonight or tomorrow night, probably. *Yield/Forfeit keeps poking its hand up and offering little scenes from Kell's early time in the circuit, before she yields Roman, and I'm like, yes honey, thank you, please hold that thought for another couple days, okay? Okay time to get started on tonight's editing. YOSH~ EDIT, 11.45pm: Total Veterans rewrites now 7,919 over the last three nights, which really isn't that shabby. Really, it's like one more bridging scene, then the final fight scene, and then that's it. Should have it nailed tomorrow night! (And given that the section I'm rewriting was only 7.1k words originally, everything I write now is straight on top of our wordcount!) ...Also uccmail is back up, yay! I am just informing everyone that I shall be in the unisfa clubroom around lunchtime tomorrow (we shall say 1-3pm, though if you give me notice of when you will be there, I shall be there), in case people should want to at the last minute pay for tickets. On that note I am reminding you that tomorrow is tomorrow, and if you want to come you have to tell us "by" tomorrow (I am assuming that you can tell us tomorrow, as long as it is before the end of the day). Details, in case you have forgotten them, are at http://community.livejournal.com/unisfa/72992.html- Nicholas, Librarian |

Ugnnnn. Woke up with horror cramps today. I'm going to eat something, then go back to bed. Probably play a bit of animal crossing before going back to sleep, cause I'm loaded with opiates. It's the only thing that'll knock the pain on its arse. (I need an icon that says "MY UTERUS HATES MIRENA"). ETA: Need another icon. "MY FACE HATES MIRENA". mediscare I have just been trying to work out where my nearest mediscare orifice is, and I am almost dead between two, freo which is is 15.93kms* away by road and rockingham which is 15.25kms* by road
that made me want to find one that was midway between three. I got Hammond park pretty close which is 17.11kms* from boogaroon, 17.86kms* from armadale and 18.86kms* from freo
HBF doesnt have the pretty map, but they do have a branch in success which is like.. 8kms away at the nearest shopping centre to here, but then i pay HBF to be near me, and i had a massive go at them a few months back asking why the hell they didnt have a branch in success... and now they do
* mediscares website is very approximate. i live on the northern central edge of wattleup and they say booragoon is 18.6kms away, when google maps says here to garden city is 20kms exactly. |

Batman the Third So, a lot of people have been speculating on the interwobs about how to follow up The Dark Knight. I've been thinking about it recently, and here's my very basic framework for what I think could make an excellent third film. I'm mostly focusing on which characters to include and how to utilize them. I'm not going to bother speculating on plot details. Cut for Dark Knight spoilers. ( Read more... )So, what do people think? Any comments? |

disposable heroes of hypocrisy remember that band
anyway I am off work not feeling too well. my head feels 100kms big and holding it p didnt feel so good so I had a lay down infront of the telly
have you seen the sh!t thats on at this hour?
anyway I was watching kerry anne kennel and there was a segment on environmentally friendly ways to get rid of doggy doo, one was cool, these granules that help the doo dissolve into the ground faster
the next was a cooking segment and the home economist was asked about using baking paper, and the cook told her yes because 'it is less washing up and that's important'
i just love that those were next to each other. surely a light spray of canolla is better for the environment overall because you don't have to wash it, you wipe it down if you have a non stick tray and look: no waste! |

Fun with prophylactics! Okay. So it's now about 20 hours or so since they popped that coil of hormoney goodness into my little sac of pain. I was *right* in the middle of a period when they did this. Bleeding, cramps, the whole nine yards. Here are the phases I've gone through in the past day: Phase One: Coming Out of Anaesthetic - Cramping around the implant. Painful, sore, and every time I get a full bladder or colon, it presses against the uterus and HURTS LIKE FRIGGING HELL. - Wooziness from the drugs. I was given some opioid that began with the letter "T", Teh... Try... something. I don't remember - I asked when I was coming out of anaesthetic. (Don't ask me why I ask these questions - I'm too curious or something). - Mood dips as the drugs wore off. Phase Two: Sitting Around At Home Getting Used To Shit - More cramping, yay! No, it's really fucking hurting now. - Sharp pains start joining in around my abdomen. It's just like the pains I had when I was coming out of the last general I had when I had the laparoscopy. I remember Dr. Karen telling me that it's common with opioids to feel sore in the guts when coming off them. - Still tired as hell. Phase Three: What The Hell Is My Body Up To Now?! - Cramping has subsided (for now). - Sharp pains have taken over. All through my abdomen is killing me. - Back is starting to hurt - that is really weird. Back pain, from shoulder-blades to dip in middle of back. - I've stopped bleeding. There's no period blood. I don't know if this is my usual 'pause' in the middle of my period, or whether my poor uterus has gone into shock. So yes... this Mirena thing is surely an adventure. O_O Hopefully things will improve from here on in. I really want this to work. I want to have a shot at getting busy with things again. Current Mood: hopeful |

Help. Please. D: I am so glad I found this community after, literally, hours of fruitless searching on forums and the next-to-useless Nintendo Wi-Fi website. I'm having difficulties getting onto my network. Lots of difficulties. I'm pretty much at the end of my rope on this issue here, and I really need help. Please, if anyone's had issues with this, tell me how you resolved it. Whatever you do, though, do not direct me to the Nintendo Wi-Fi site. I've searched that thing up and down and all around and found absolutely nothing. Zip. Nada. I've been through too many forums where all they do is direct me there, and it's downright annoying at this point. If it's any help at all, I have a 2Wire router. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated. And hey, if I get this to work, I'll make a post for a Friend Code exchange in celebration. =) Thanks very much! Current Mood: distressed |

shaving cream - be nice and clean So in September I'll be going to Thailand (Bangkok and Chiang Mai) to meet up with alankria and winterfox (skipping a week of uni to traipse around leech-infested ruins with people who don't exist irl, haha). It will be my first time flying solo and my first time leaving the state without my parents! Does anyone have any travelling tips for this noob? I am especially unsure what to do re: money. I have a normal bank card - should I get a debit or credit card, or should I just take lots of cash since it's only an 11-day trip? (The day after I get back, my parents leave for 10-day Tasmania holiday. I am going to die.) |

North America Reading a bit on the net this evening about customs in the US and Canada. Amusingly most pages about Canada written for people from the US seem to focus upon admonishing them not to be rude. A few things are odd though.
Coming from a crazy, socialist country with a fair (ish) minimum wage I'm going to have to remember to tip people. Some sites say 10%, others say 15%. Apparently the neat way is to multiply the sub-total for GST on your receipt, although presumably that only works in Canada. Does anyone know what you're actually meant to tip?
Also, anyone have any recommendations for places to stay in the following cities? I can find places on the net, but if people I know have been and can recommend somewhere even better! We're going through Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Las Angeles. Thanks in advance to anyone that replies :-) |

Bad Cinemas (and bad technobabble) Well, this article is really just about one bad cinema. Or really just about one screen in one cinema. You see, I went to watch Prince Caspian the other day and due to the timings of showings the Vue (my usual first choice) wasn't an option so I found myself in town at the Odeon. Screen 3 in particular.
The first time alarm bells were ringing was during the opening credits when I realised that when they were flashing up the actos and other stuff on screen at the beginning the ones on the left of the screen were truncated. Yup. The screen was showing only part of their names and chopping off the left side. As some of the lighter bits of the film showed it became clear that the problem was that they were projecting onto the curtains at the sides of the screen.
Then for the end credits it became obvious that this wasn't there only problem and they were in fact projecting a trapezium onto the screen that made the end credits look a little bit like the scrolling text at the beginning of Star Wars.
I muttered and moaned and vowed never to go back but I thought on the way out as I saw somebody who looked like they might be able to do something (as opposed to somebody who was just there to clean up the old popcorn containers) that I would report the problems.
So I told this bloke about the issues and he told me what the problem was. The curtain moving stuff was apparently broken and due to be replaced on thursday. And apparently, and more importantly, the image was trapeziumed because they were "having to fight against gravity". Yes, you heard it hear first. Odeon cinema george street, screen 3 has gravitational anomalies which apparently distort the spacetime contiuum enough that their projectors can't compensate.
I think what he was trying to say (or at least I'm pretty sure the reason was) that the projector was much higher than the screen and so without making adjustments you are going to get that kind of effect. When I pointed out to him that the projector that probably cost a couple of hundred quid that we use at work can adjust for this his most excellent and informative reply was to let me know that the circuit board that controlled the curtains was broken and was being replaced on Thursday (that's tomorrow though why he thought I cared that much I don't know).
I was mildly bemused by this guys responses. I would have been quite happy with an answer along the lines of "Thank you for letting us know. The problem is one we are aware of and we are doing our best to resolve it." or "Oh, I'll let the manager know about that so he can deal with it". I just got the impression instead that this guy was trying to make himself sound like he knew what he was talking about to satisfy the customer with technobabble. Its a shame really that he opened with "the projetor is having to fight against gravity".
I'm not sure that even after Thursday when they will hopefully have replaced the circuitboard for the curtains, that I will willingly go back to the odeon without some very compelling reasons. Its just more hastle, not as good a cinema and apparently attended by lots of people who can't turn up for a film on time (though it was amusing to see some people who apparently weren't sure how an aisle worked and kept trying to walk through chairs - I really have no idea what was going on there).
Anyway, that was a bit of a rant but mainly just to share the bad technobabble. :)
Oh, and he did actually after a while agree that he would get somebody to look at calibrating their projector properly... |
